SOUTHERN COMPANY LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE SERVICES FOR RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS

Atlanta, Georgia - Southern Company (NYSE: SO), one of the nation’s largest producers of electricity, announced the launch of its Energy Check Up online application for the residential customers of its five Southeastern electric utilities: Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power and Savannah Electric. Southern Company selected Enercom, Inc., an Atlanta-based developer of customer-facing online energy applications to develop Energy Check Up.

“Enercom has provided a quality tool tailored to meet the specific requirements of Southern Company,” said Al Lemmer, Enercom’s director of software development. “Southern needed a highly customized site that would effectively serve the needs and reflect the rate structures of each of its operating utilities. It is a testament to our application’s flexibility and the skill of Enercom’s development team that the final result seamlessly integrates with Southern’s graphics standards and content for each of its operating companies,” added Lemmer.

Several different applications are included in Energy Check Up. Customers can elect to do a full-length audit of their energy use or they can choose the EZ Check Up, which is a shorter, yet highly accurate audit. The Energy Calculator determines the approximate energy consumption and cost for most home appliances, and the Energy Tips application is a virtual library of information ranging across a variety of home energy subjects in easy-to-understand terms.

Enercom also developed EnergyDirect, Southern’s online energy management application for its large commercial and industrial customers, which can be viewed at www.energydirect.com.
