NEW DEMEC SERVICES HELPS CUSTOMERS SAVE ENERGY

Smyrna, Delaware - (News Release) Nine Delaware cities have cost-effectively added energy conservation information to their Web sites by working together through the Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, Inc. (DEMEC).

These cites worked together to offer free online tools and resources to help customers conserve energy and learn how to manage their home energy use. The Internet-based software called Energy Depot® provides valuable tools, including online energy audits, energy calculators, energy library, FAQ’s and more. Energy Depot is a product of Enercom®, Inc. a leading provider of energy software.

"The online energy audit software allows us to provide a solution to a common need of our customers in our communities. This tool allows them to better understand their energy consumption and offers options to become more efficient in their energy use," said DEMEC President & CEO Patrick E. McCullar. "DEMEC is committed to adding new services that meet the needs of our member utilities and their customers."

Participating cities include Newark, New Castle, Middletown, Clayton, Smyrna, Dover, Milford, Lewes, and Seaford.

The rising awareness of energy cost and the environment have increased the demand for home energy audits and other energy information. DEMEC’s member utilities wanted to provide their customers with educational resources to help conserve energy. Working together through DEMEC enabled the cities to purchase the online energy software in a cost-effective manner.

Energy Depot is an integrated suite of online resources designed to answer energy questions. The major elements include:

  • Energy Profile - Customers answer an energy questionnaire and in return receive a personalized online energy audit report to understand their home’s energy use and cost and identify ways to save money.
  • Energy Calculator - Quickly calculate the annual energy use and cost of individual electric and natural gas home systems and appliances.
  • Energy Comparison Tool - Customers can easily compare energy use and cost of their existing home heating and cooling system, or water heater, with a wide range of new system options. They can also compare various new systems with each other and learn the payback period for buying more efficient systems.
  • Energy Library - Read about a range of home energy topics and review the most frequently asked questions and answers on home energy use.
  • Energy Advisor - Have remaining energy questions answered via e-mail by an online energy advisor.

The DEMEC Energy Depot site can be accessed through the Web sites of the individual city utility participants or at this link.
